How To Install Git On Windows
In this tutorial, we will see how to install Git on Windows.
Git Introduction
Git is an open-source version-control system for tracking changes in source code during software development across different teams.
Git Installation On Windows
Go to https://git-scm.com/downloads and click on your Windows to download Git for Windows
Go to the download location (my Git Installation file is in the Downloads folder) to extract and launch Git.
Open the file to extract and launch the installer.
Go through the GNU General Public License. If you are interested to continue then click on Next.
Choose the installation location of your choice and click on Next. I just left it as default.
You can leave the default selected components and click on Next. If you have any specific needs then select or unselect the components.
Choose the start menu folder location of your choice and click on Next. I just left it as default.
Choose a text editor you would like to use with Git and click on Next. Here I have selected the default one.
Here you can change the PATH environment. Here I have left the default recommended one i.e., Git from the command line and also from 3rd party software.
Select the option of your choice and click on Next.
Select the server certificate of your choice.
Select the default ‘Use the OpenSSL library‘ and click on Next
In the next step, choose ‘Checkout Windows-style, commit Unix-style line endings’ and click Next
The next step is to configure the terminal emulator to use with Git Bash.
Select the default MinTTY and click on Next
Select the Git Credential Manager and click Next
In the configuring extra options, select Enable file system caching and click Next
Git is installing
Once the installation is completed. You can launch Git Bash and also view release notes based on your preference.
Launching Git Bash
To launch Git Bash, open the Windows Start menu and type ‘Git Bash’ and press Enter (Also you can click on the Git Bash application icon).
Launch Git GUI
To launch Git GUI, open the Windows Start menu and type ‘Git GUI’ and press Enter (Also you can click on the Git Bash application icon).
